Submission – Ontario Minister of Energy and Mines Local Generation Program (LGP)

REALPAC has submitted recommendations to Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Mines regarding the design of the province’s upcoming Local Generation Program (LGP), which aims to secure new and existing electricity generation resources to meet growing demand. In its submission, REALPAC expressed strong support for the program and urged the Province to create favourable business conditions that enable rooftop solar and other building-based distributed energy resources to participate at scale. Key recommendations include establishing meaningful procurement targets for new-build rooftop solar, enabling project aggregation across commercial real estate portfolios, streamlining interconnection and approval processes, and recognizing the locational value that distributed generation can provide to the electricity grid. REALPAC also highlighted the economic benefits of rooftop solar, including job creation, private capital investment, support for Ontario-based supply chains, and new revenue opportunities for commercial property owners.
