Hippiron 20ml Hippiron Iron Injection for Horses is an injectable solution indicated for the treatment of iron deficiency anaemia in horses. It contains iron at 20mg/mL as a ferric-hydroxide-sucrose compound and is supplied as a brownish, pyrogen-free sterile alkaline solution. Hippiron is intended for use where iron deficiency is associated with conditions such as parasitism, poor nutrition or haemorrhage. Following injection, Hippiron breaks down into carbohydrates and trivalent iron hydroxide. The iron is stored as ferritin in the liver before being transported as transferrin to the site of erythropoiesis, where red blood cells are formed. The product is indicated to help improve oxygen uptake. Dosage and treatment duration depend on the severity of the iron deficiency and should follow the directions provided for foals, yearlings and adult horses.
