PENJING PEDESTALS
Material: Hongmu wood Origin: China, Qing dynasty Measurements: 40 cm long x 40 cm wide x 85 cm high These pedestals were typically placed at the entrances of large homes to display the finest bonsai pieces. Positioned in front of white walls, the sunlight would create decorative shadow effects. Crafted from hongmu (rosewood) and following the tradition of imperial cabinetmaking, these pieces were joined using complex hidden mortise and tenon systems. Their pierced aprons and stretchers with geometric decorations strengthen the structure and lighten the silhouette. Availability: 2 pieces, sold separately
