Warm milk glass in the mid-century Italian tradition. A two-tier chandelier built around dozens of hand-blown milk glass discs, mounted to a solid brass ring structure with a central milk bowl diffuser underneath. The design language is drawn directly from the Italian mid-century lineage — the work of Gaetano Sciolari, Mazzega, and Vistosi in the 1960s and 1970s, when Italian design houses were defining what post-war luxury lighting should look like. Milk was their color of choice because it does something no other glass tone does: it casts warm light on a room without tinting it, giving an milk glow to skin and fabric while keeping whites reading as whites and wood tones reading true. The Ambra revives that design language for contemporary interiors, built to the same material spec the original houses used: solid brass (not plated), hand-blown Italian glass (not pressed), concealed hardware (not exposed screws and bolts). The result is a piece that belongs in period-authentic mid-century homes, Italian-inspired contemporary interiors, and warm-toned transitional architecture in equal measure. Where it belongs: [60CM — 24"] Over a 6-seat round dining table in a room with 9–11 ft ceilings. Above a standard 5–6 ft kitchen island in a warm-toned or walnut kitchen. In a mid-century modern primary bedroom, centered above the foot of the bed. In a library or study with wood paneling and leather furniture, where the Milk tone picks up the warmth of the materials below. In a smaller formal dining room with travertine or honey-toned stone floors. [80CM — 31.5"] Over an 8-seat dining table in a room with 10–12 ft ceilings — the most-requested size in this design. Above an 8-ft kitchen island in a serious kitchen. Centered in a primary living room in a mid-century modern, transitional, or warm contemporary interior. Above a billiard table or long bar counter in a warm-tones-favoring room. In a hotel lobby or restaurant dining room with mid-century architectural references. [100CM — 39.4"] Over a 10–12 seat dining table in a formal dining room with 11–14 ft ceilings. Centered in a great room with walnut floors, stone fireplace, and warm natural materials. In a double-height foyer with period-authentic mid-century architecture. In a boutique hotel lobby, private club dining room, or serious hospitality space where the milk glow reads as deliberate curation. About the glass. The discs are hand-blown from Italian glass in the Murano tradition — not pressed, not machine-formed, not fused. The term Murano-style, rather than Murano, is our honest designation: the glass is blown using the traditional Venetian techniques that originated on Murano island (the inclusion of milk oxides at the furnace, the hand-pulling of each disc from molten glass, the individual firing of every piece), but our workshop is on the Italian mainland rather than on Murano itself. The craftsmanship is identical to island-made Murano. What's different is geography — and geography, at this price tier, is what separates a $7,000 chandelier from a $14,000 one. We make this distinction explicit because the designers who spec at this level verify materials. Rather than stretch the Murano name, we'd rather tell you exactly what you're buying: genuinely hand-blown Italian white glass, made in the Venetian tradition, at the price it deserves. Each disc has its own variations in white saturation, surface texture, and light transmission. Matched discs are the mark of machine-pressed glass. Varied discs are the mark of real hand-blowing. About the brass. The frame, chain, and all hardware are solid brass — not plated, not brass-finished, not coated. At the scale of this fixture (up to 42 kg of hand-hung glass), plated hardware would reveal itself as the plating wore unevenly under load. Solid brass is the only material spec that ages without failing. We leave the brass unlacquered. Over years of use, the finish develops a warm, darker tone — deeper gold, richer patina. Lacquered brass fails unevenly over time; unlacquered brass ages uniformly, which is what separates a lifetime piece from a disposable one. Proportioned for serious architecture. Unlike mass-produced mid-century reproductions that compromise scale to hit a retail price, the Ambra is built at the dimensions the original Sciolari and Mazzega pieces were built: substantial disc diameter, two tiers of glass (upper and lower), and a central bottom bowl that catches and redistributes the light downward. The Ambra 100cm at 39 inches diameter is not an "oversized" reproduction — it's the scale at which this design was always meant to live. Chain and drop. Solid brass chain, 60cm (23.6") standard length, fully customizable. Specify your ceiling height at order and we ship to your requirement. Extended chains for double-height foyers and higher ceilings available — we've shipped chandeliers in this design to 22-ft stairwells with custom 4-meter chain lengths. No additional fee for custom chain. The light itself. Multiple E12 candelabra bulbs illuminate the fixture from within. LED candelabra recommended for lower heat (important for protecting the white glass long-term) and longer fixture life. Bulbs not included; specify dimmable compatibility at checkout if you need it. The white glass transforms the light character fundamentally: warm white LED bulbs (2700K-3000K) pass through the white and cast a deeper honey-gold tone into the room. This is the fixture's signature — the reason this design has been spec'd continuously since 1965 and will be for the next 60 years. Max 40W per socket (LED candelabra strongly recommended to protect the white glass and extend fixture life) Voltage: Universal 110V–240V compatible Wiring: Hardwired, UL listed components for US 120V, CSA certified, CE certified for 220V EU Dimmable: On request — specify at checkout for TRIAC 120V compatible wiring Chain: 60cm / 23.6" standard brass chain, fully customizable length. Ceiling rose adaptation available on request for non-standard mounting. Mounting: Requires reinforced ceiling blocking for all sizes. At 40+ lbs for the smallest and 93 lbs for the largest, standard residential junction boxes (50 lb rated) are insufficient. Licensed electrician with structural access required. Origin: Handmade in Italy (mainland workshop, Venetian glass-blowing tradition) Note: Each white glass disc is individually hand-blown; variation in color saturation, surface texture, and optical quality between discs is intrinsic to hand-blown glass and is not a defect. Solid brass will develop a warmer patina over years of use.
