The Smokers won four league pennants (1920, 1925, 1946 and 1949) and earned a place in state history as one of the first racially integrated teams in Florida, signing Afro-Cuban outfielder Claro Duany in 1952. Future big-leaguers including Joe Medwick and Camilo Pascual passed through Tampa before the franchise folded along with the Florida International League after the 1954 season.
