European Antique Silver Pendant - Match / Vesta Case - 2 inch length A very cool piece I sourced on my recent travels in the Netherlands. A beautifully worn vesta case, aka match safe, that would have held and kept dry "wax vestas"—matches with wax stems. The bottom ridged portion of the case was used to strike the matches. I like to reimagine it as a pendant. This antique silver pendant measures 1 inch wide by 2 inches overall drop, weighs 13.6 grams and is stamped for silver purity. Hinge works perfectly and lid closes securely. Condition is good with age-related wear. You can see there is a crest etched into one side of the piece and a repeating pattern etched over the body. I love the dings and wear that give this piece character. What will you store inside?
