She shows me all I have survived and how that part of me has lived protected within the funny face and eyes that darted, delighted by all creatures running free, whether on the land or wild in my imagination. She has been my guardian through trials I could never have imagined could be true. She smiles her beautiful smile and tells me she is so proud of the bright light and how I’ve gathered up the pieces. Before she leaves she shows me these coastal plains that were her home with softest yellow hues against the deepest blue, which reminds me of my mother and yellow walls of the room where I slept as a child. I remember momentarily the shadows that spun as ominous warning and how I swear I knew what I thought about having made a mistake in coming to this place. She rises in my dream, prepares to leave but first she touches my face, says without speaking that it was no mistake, that this life will not take green love that lives in me.
