Antique Pottery Vessel Mounted as a Table Lamp

Brand: Collection EE40

A characterful antique earthenware vessel of elegant elongated baluster form, later converted to a table lamp. The body rises from a narrow foot to broad rounded shoulders before tapering to a short neck with a simple collar rim. The warm terracotta surface displays a rich patina developed through age and use, with variations in colour ranging from honey and ochre tones to deeper umber hues. Probably Mediterranean or Middle Eastern, 19th century or earlier Dimensions (vessel): Height: 42 cm Diameter: 20 cm Base diameter: 12.5 cm The shade shown as an example only. Country specific wiring is completed after purchase. The vessel retains the tactile qualities associated with traditional utilitarian pottery, including subtle irregularities in the thrown form, firing marks and surface abrasions accumulated over time. The unglazed body has acquired a soft, mellow finish, while traces of mineral deposits and wear around the neck and foot further enhance its rustic appeal. Condition: Later converted to electricity. Surface wear, abrasions, firing imperfections and minor losses consistent with age and use. The vessel displays a well-developed patina and presents attractively. Provenance: Private collection, United Kingdom. Note: The exact origin and date of the vessel remain unconfirmed, though its form and surface suggest traditional Mediterranean or Middle Eastern pottery intended for everyday domestic use. Its simplicity and authenticity give it considerable decorative appeal.
