Bodhisattva

Añjali mudrā is associated with veneration and greeting across Buddhist traditions and is comparatively rare as the primary gesture in Japanese devotional sculpture, where iconographic convention typically assigns figures more differentiated hand positions. The object shows evidence of sustained devotional use over an extended period. Provenance suggests a domestic or small temple context.
