1920s Caged Slag Glass Lamp with Salem Lamp Co. Lamp Base
This is an early 20th-century table lamps, most commonly associated with the Arts & Crafts movement (circa 1900–1925). The warm, marbled glass shades often referred to as slag glass were made by pouring molten glass into molds, creating those distinctive ripples and color variations that look almost like stone when lit. No two shades are exactly alike, which is part of their appeal. The heavy bases, usually cast metal or bronze, were designed to balance the substantial shades and reflect the movement’s emphasis on honest materials, craftsmanship, and function. Tall, fancy embossed flower and reeded panel base, shell and bell flower raised frames to hold domed caramel slag glass panels.
