Superb Victorian Bi-Colour 15ct And 9ct Albertina Tassel Watch-Chain/Necklace (2 x Bracelets) Circa 1880-1890’s
This is a truly exceptional piece of Victorian jewellery — a beautiful marriage of two original Albertina watch chains allowing these pieces to be worn as a necklace, that captures the elegance and ingenuity of the late 19th century. A serious collector’s dream and a wonderful investment in both history and gold, this piece represents the very best of Victorian craftsmanship. Please note, boxes are for display only unless otherwise stated. Dating to around 1880–1890s (approximately 135–145 years old), this superb ‘necklace’ has been thoughtfully created by pairing two original Albertina watch chains. Individually different, yet perfectly complementary in style and proportion, they come together to form a striking 49.5 cm necklace featuring a magnificent gold Tassel. The chains incorporate both 15ct and 9ct rose and yellow gold elements, ornate floral motifs to both ‘sliders’ which creates a lovely bi-colour effect that adds warmth and intricate Victorian detailing. What makes this piece particularly special is its versatility. Thanks to the original two dog clips and bolt ring, the chains can be easily separated and worn individually if desired: • One chain measures 26 cm (slightly too long to be worn as a bracelet in our opinion) • The other measures 23 cm (not including the tassel which hangs freely at a further 10cm) Both these pieces ‘could’ be further re-imagined by your jeweller easily if so desired. Weighing an impressive 34.6 grams, this is a substantial, high-quality antique. The condition is outstanding — pristine for its age. The Tassel retains every foxtail strand, hanging straight and fluid with beautiful movement, and each daintly ball end is also present. The dog clips are perfect, as is the large 1.5cm bolt ring. There are no repairs, no thinning, and no wear to any of the links or components. The ornate sliders are particularly beautiful: one glides smoothly and features with raised star and circular motifs, while the other features intricate floral designs in raised relief and was never intended to ‘slide’.
