Smoke Noren

Bring a striking statement piece into your home with our latest noren series. The Smoke Noren features an elegant, flowing, asymmetrical design, like incense smoke rising into the air. It brings a sense of movement into the space, while retaining a clean and simple style. The designs are hand-drawn by Funayama Arata, a visual and graphic artist whose work reinterprets classical Japanese patterns. He aims to help a contemporary audience feel more connected to the whole of Japanese culture — its nature, its materials, and its people. The designs are hand-stenciled and screen printed onto linen using the tenassen (手捺染) technique by Shobien, a legacy dyeing workshop in Kyoto. See other works by Shobien.
