Dry Needling For Pelvic Pain - In-Person (Vaughan, ON)

Course Description: This 3-day in-person course will introduce the concepts of trigger point dry needling as it relates to the muscles of the pelvis and perineum. The course will integrate pain science research with anatomy and biomechanics of the pelvis and pelvic floor. Students will learn techniques to safely perform trigger point dry needling to the region. They will also learn clinical patterns that may facilitate improved clinical reasoning as to when and where to utilize trigger point dry needling. Muscle groups include the hip abductors, adductors, flexors, abdominal muscles, urogenital triangle, levator ani, and coccygeus. Students will review the anatomy, function, and dry needling techniques for each muscle. The Dry Needling for Pelvic Pain course is designed with the pelvic health practitioner in mind. Myopain Seminars values the unique skillset of pelvic floor clinicians and is proud to offer a dry needling course that features internal palpation and the effective dry needling treatment of internal pelvic floor muscles. Attending this course will improve the proficiency of dry needling skills in these providers while maintaining focus on the muscles most commonly treated in people with chronic pelvic pain and other types of pelvic floor dysfunction. This is a three-day in-person course, including a practical examination on the third day. Course objectives: Become familiar with common referral patterns for the muscles of the pelvic floor and the muscles which commonly refer pain to the pelvic region Integrate pain science in a comprehensive approach to treating the pelvic floor Understand the precautions (relative and absolute) to performing trigger point dry needling in the pelvic region – biological, emotional and psychological Learn appropriate and safe positioning, needle insertion and post-needling instruction for the muscles of the pelvis and perineum Audience: This course is intended for experienced clinicians who are trained and authorized to perform both internal examinations and dry needling within their professional scope of practice and in accordance with local regulations. Prerequisite: Successful completion of level 1 - an entry level internal palpation course. Previous experience with pelvic health physiotherapy, including internal work, is required. This course does include some internal work, so participants should feel comfortable with these skills. She graduated with her Master’s of Physical Therapy from Hahnemann University and completed a transitional DPT from Evidence in Motion Institute of Health Professions in conjunction with a Pelvic Health Certification. She is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, is a Polestar trained Pilates Instructor, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA). She is certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling through Myopain Seminars.
