A beautiful quartet that transcends chamber music, bringing cinematic sensations that stimulate sight and memory. For more than a decade, Cicada, a Taiwanese chamber music ensemble, has woven Taiwan’s mountains, seas, and landscapes into sound. "Gazing the Shades of White" is the beginning of a journey from island to island, following the traces of glaciers from the Northern to the Southern Hemisphere—through Iceland, Greenland, and New Zealand, and then back to Taiwan—to trace the memories left by ancient glaciers. In Greenland's Ilulissat fjord, colossal ice bodies drift, and along Iceland's highland trails, glaciers meet the remnants of lava flows. Between Vatnajökull and Jökulsárlón, countless fragments of ice quietly dissolve into time. On Taiwan's Snow Mountain, a glacial lake rests beside ancient conifers, and beneath New Zealand's Aoraki, the traveler finds a silence that resonates with the mountain. Through delicate sounds and moments gathered on the journey, Cicada transforms the disappearance of seemingly eternal landscapes into an intimate dialogue between music and listener.
