Vintage Australian Celtic Cross Pendant with Green Glass, 9ct Yellow Gold, 2.1g

Started in both Ireland and Scotland in the Early Middle Ages (think 5th -9th Centuries). Started as a pagan symbol for the sun and either the compass points or the four natural elements (air, fire, earth and water), it was adopted by Christians and the cross became the more prominent feature over the circle. Carved into stone and used in their jewellery Celtic crosses became a symbol for protection and to provide divine guidance from the heavens above. We have found this fabulous hallmark on a number of vintage Australian treasures - but no such mark exists in our books. Lost to the sands of time, we realise we may never know who made this, but our other pieces have been quite strong in their 1940s styling - so that has led us closer. Featuring a green glass central stone - we love the vibrance of the stone colour against the richness of the gold.
