The Tatuaje Havana VI — the Red Label — is the line Pete Johnson built for smokers who wanted Cuban character without Cuban strength. It launched in 2006 with a traditional Havana-style roll and triple cap, and it has stayed a shop staple for twenty years by being the Tatuaje you can smoke at nine in the morning. For the line's 20th anniversary, Johnson added two soft-pressed sizes. The blend is built on an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper in an oscuro shade over a Nicaraguan double binder and Nicaraguan long fillers, rolled by the García family at My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí. The reason Havana VI smokes softer than Tatuaje's brown label is a filler decision: volado leaf in place of ligero. It takes the edge off the strength without flattening the flavor. The first third opens with pepper and a distinct ginger note, backed by cedar. The middle brings creamy caramel, dark roast coffee, and a bit of cashew, with leather and earth underneath. Medium to medium-full, spice running through the whole cigar but never sharp.
