INVERTEBRATE - BURROWING ROACHES (SA DESERT)

A nocturnal burrowing species, they make tunnels and take food for the top of the enclosure to bring down into their burrows to eat. They live for approx 10 years and reach sizes of 7-8cm. 1-3 can be kept in a minimum enclosure size of 40 x 30 x 40cm and require a substrate depth of at least 20cm to make their tunnels, therefore the T2 45 x 45 is the best enclosure for them. Best substrate is a mix of 2 thirds play sand and 1 third coco coir or a potting mix. Dried leaf litter should be mixed throughout. substrate: bark and cork and different woods are good to have, and a constant thick supply of dried leaf litter (eucalyptus) is essential as that is majority of their diet. Their diet can be supplemented with dried rolled oats and the occasional fresh fruit once a week or two can be given. The substrate should also be dry on top. And the mildly moist in the middle, that can be achieved by spraying one corner of the tank once a fortnight.
