Giant Slit Pore Photosynthetic Gorgonian, Plexaurella nutans, is a branching soft coral known for its thick upright sea-rod growth, rounded branch tips, prominent slit-like pores, and fuzzy brown to tan polyp extension. This photosynthetic gorgonian adds height, texture, and natural reef movement to established saltwater aquariums. Plexaurella nutans is commonly known as the Giant Slit-Pore Sea Rod and is valued for its durable branching structure and easier light-loving care compared with non-photosynthetic gorgonians. Care Guide: Plexaurella nutans does best in moderate to higher lighting with moderate to strong, indirect water flow. Steady water movement helps keep the thick branches clean, supports polyp extension, and prevents detritus or nuisance algae from settling on the tissue. Place it where the branches receive consistent flow without being blasted directly. Maintain stable salinity, temperature, alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium, along with good overall water quality. This gorgonian is photosynthetic, but it may benefit from occasional broadcast feeding with fine coral foods, phytoplankton, or other small suspended foods in a mature reef aquarium.
