Italian 4 bay free standing wall unit in the style of Gio Ponti, 1970s

This impressive Italian freestanding wall unit comes from the 1970s and, by the architectural character, resembles Gio Ponti’s style. Its modular construction, geometric proportions, and combination of open shelving with closed storage create a light yet highly functional one-work composition. Overall dimensions are H: 205 / W: 323 / D: 40 cm. The unit consists of three cabinets and nine adjustable shelves. The bar cabinet features drop-down doors and an internal division with two compartments for glasses and a larger compartment for bottles. The second cabinet combines a drawer with an open storage compartment, while the third features an internal shelf. The nine shelves can be positioned higher or lower, as well as chests, according to individual needs, making it possible to accommodate and display objects of different sizes. They can also be arranged either directly one below another or alternately, with one shelf projecting forward and the next backward. The entire unit is finished in walnut veneer, and the interiors are in mahogany. As the back side is veneered as well, it can be used as a room divider, allowing the open shelving to be appreciated from both sides. It stands on elegant wood supports with decorative metal cores, finished with adjustable brass feet. The combination of warm wood, brass, and metal gives the piece a distinctive Italian character. The wall unit has been carefully refreshed. Wood has been treated with professional compounds. It bears some very minor signs of use that only confirm its age and provenance. All elements fit perfectly. It remains in very good vintage condition.
