Vagabondage II | Rose Gold
Introduced in 2010, the Vagabondage II departed from the original's wandering hours display in favour of a digital jumping hours and jumping minutes complication. The dial also became significantly more abstract and pared back than its predecessor, placing greater emphasis on the mechanics beneath. Equally significant developments were made to the movement, with the calibre incorporating Journe's free-sprung balance and a remontoir d'égalité to provide a more consistent supply of power for the energy-intensive jumping indications. The Vagabondage Trio The completion of the three Vagabondage pieces would take a little over a decade, and demonstrate Journe's evolution over the years as well as present an interesting adaptation of the wandering and jumping complications respectively. The tortue-shaped case is another shared theme between all three, with only a very slight variation in size between the first edition in platinum, which is the smallest, and the second and third, which have larger proportions. The rose variant of the first edition produced later was also produced in the larger size. Each case has a vertically brushed, flat bezel that frames the dial, with a thin and elegant profile that masks a substantial heft on the wrist. Each piece also has a different approach to open working, by nature of their varied complications, and intriguingly, none of the pieces bear Journe's name, remaining entirely subtle and allowing the work to speak for itself. The Vagabondage II The second entry of this trilogy was introduced in 2010, and was inspired by a watch Journe saw in a catalog, which featured jumping hours and minutes. Journe's take featured a digital display, through the help of three independent discs. Another 69 pieces were made in platinum, with 68 in red gold and another 10 in platinum, also with diamond-set bezels. Additionally, the Vagabondage II featured a small second sub-dial and a power reserve. The ‘smoked’ sapphire dial is faintly tinted, optimising legibility and allowing the mechanics of the movement to be exposed. Overall, the dial is especially layered, with the discs and display bridge creating a sense of depth. The asymmetry that is found on the latter gives the the watch an almost abstract artistic touch. Between the first and second editions, significant changes were made to the movement. The calibre 1509 featured the addition of a remontoir mechanism for the jumping display, allowing for the better regulation of increased power, which the jumping mechanism requires, and also integrated a free-sprung balance wheel, widely-seen amongst Journe's other watches.
