Inspired by classic rock, this bestiary of 54 new monsters riffs on ideas from a band name or song title such as Eyes Without a Face, Freebird, and Twisted Sisters. Each monster’s actions and lore may pay further homage by alluding to lyrics or other aspects of a band, but the designs focus on making intriguing foes. Rock and Roar! has two versions, one with stats for the Old-School Essentials RPG (a faithful clone of B/X Dungeons and Dragons) and another for the Shadowdark RPG (a streamlined, old-school spin on 5E D&D). This is the Old-School Essentials version. Not only does each creature have game stats, but each includes a short origin or ecology info (like the old Dragon Ecology articles) and a chart or two of tools and options for that creature (inspired by The Monster Overhaul). But wait, there’s more! Also included is a setting map for the “Land of Confusion” with locations like: Stairway to Heaven, The Casbah, The Great Wide Open, Paradise City, and many more. Finally, there are eight mini-quests (2-4 pages each) using most of the monsters in the book! 88 pages.
