Memoirs of Wipro R&D Pioneers

Memoirs of Wipro R&D Pioneers traces Wipro R&D from its beginnings in 1980, as a small team in a rented office on Dickenson Road, to its emergence as Wipro Global R&D at the turn of the millennium. The story is told by the leaders who lived it. It follows the products that put Wipro on the map, from the Series-86 and the Series-386 Unix systems to the Landmark and Synergy lines and Wipro's personal computers. It also follows the capabilities in software, hardware and VLSI, communications, embedded systems and quality that carried the organisation into global markets. These pages hold the back stories behind each breakthrough: the bets that paid off, the setbacks overcome in the era of the Licence Raj, and the engineers who made it all possible. The book pays tribute to the pioneering work of everyone who was part of Wipro R&D during these two formative decades. It is also a rare first-hand record of how India learned to build technology for the world.
