Antique French 1913 “Schütz” Music Biography by André Pirro

A beautiful antique French volume from the Les Maîtres de la Musique (“The Masters of Music”) series, this book is Schütz by French musicologist André Pirro. Published in Paris in 1913, this volume explores the life, music, and work of German composer Heinrich Schütz. The book also includes a portrait of Schütz along with musical excerpts throughout the text. Each book in this collection features a different cloth binding. At that time, books were often sold in simple paper bindings and owners could choose custom cloth covers for their books at local bookbinding shops. These unique covers are part of the decorative appeal of these early French volumes.
