Hunting Scene

The royal hunt is among the oldest subjects in Persian art — it appears on Sasanian silver plates centuries before it reaches manuscript painting. Kings were painted hunting because the hunt demonstrated the qualities kingship was supposed to require: judgement, nerve and aim. Temirov's largest and most densely worked composition. Inspired by Persian poetry and history, the ancient art of miniature lives on with the artist from Bukhara, Uzbekistan.
