2010 Michele Dobner Violin.

Inside a violin made in 2010 by Michele Dobner in Cremona, Italy. Synonymous with names such as Stradivari and Guarneri, Cremona remains one of the world’s most important centres of violin making. Its workshops continue to produce magnificent modern instruments, including this violin by Michele Dobner. Michele describes himself as an ‘instrument architect’, a title that resonates particularly well with me and the Architecture in Music series. It’s a thrill to include one of his creations here. In older violins, centuries of repairs often provide the most intriguing details to photograph. In this bright, young instrument, the wood itself takes centre stage. Its beautiful grain is revealed from within, a view of material that Michele personally harvests from trees in the Dolomite mountains. This fine instrument is currently played by John Noble of Orchestra Victoria in Australia. Limited-Edition Prints from an edition of 250.
