THE BEAUFORT STORY Founded in 2013 by musician Leo Crabtree, BeauFort London was informed by early experiences at sea and a very British obsession with the elements. Initially, the brand was a vehicle for only one product: a handmade moustache wax in a billet aluminium case – a response to poorly executed male grooming products. In the space where craft and curiosity collided, BeauFort London discovered its true calling: fragrance as narrative. Fragrance as history. Fragrance as force. The name itself — BeauFort — comes from the Beaufort Scale of wind force, devised by Naval Officer Sir Francis Beaufort in 1805. A framework for measuring what cannot quite be controlled. A fitting metaphor for a house that has never sought consensus. PER FUMUM The word perfume derives from the Latin per fumum — through smoke. After delving into the history of scent-making, Leo resolved that BeauFort’s fragrances would be built literally on this etymology: harnessing the many olfactory facets of smoke — gunpowder, tar, incense, charred wood, salt-scorched rope — to create singular works that seek to evoke memories both real and apparitional. These are not fragrances designed to please. They are designed to provoke; to cast light on forgotten moments, to carry fragments of history on the wind.
