Blue Peas seeds (Sprout)

Blue Peas Sprouting Seeds (NOT to TAS) Untreated whole blue field peas (Pisum sativum) for sprouting in a jar, from 200 g to 2 kg. This product cannot be shipped to Tasmania. These are blue field peas, the dried pea used for mushy peas, not butterfly pea. Sprouted in a jar they are ready with a short white tail, usually 2 to 4 days from the start of the soak, and are cooked through before eating. How to sprout blue peas in a jar Measure 30 to 35 g of peas for a 500 mL jar, rinse them and pick out any split or damaged ones. Cover them generously with cool drinking water and soak for 8 to 12 hours, nearer 8 in warm weather. Drain, rinse and drain hard, then prop the jar mouth down at about 45 degrees in a bowl, out of direct sun. Rinse and drain two to three times a day. Harvest when most peas show a short white tail, around 6 mm, and still feel firm. Pick out any that did not sprout. Dry the sprouts, seal them in a clean container and keep them at 5°C or colder for 3 to 4 days. Rinse them again before cooking them through in a stir-fry, soup or curry. Food safety Pea sprouts are raw sprouts and can carry Salmonella, E. coli and Listeria, even when grown with care at home. The NSW Food Authority advises cooking all sprouts thoroughly before eating. People who are pregnant, aged 70 or over, children under 5 and anyone with a weakened immune system should not eat raw or lightly cooked, still crunchy sprouts. Wash, rinse and sanitise jars, trays and tools before the first batch and between batches, and use only water fit to drink.
