Mani Flare Files are greater taper hand files designed to deliver final canal shape with fewer instruments than conventional step back preparation. Manufactured in Japan by Mani Inc., Flare Files are distinguished by their 5/100 (0.05) taper, two and a half times the standard ISO 0.02 taper found on K-Files, RT Files, and Flexile Files. This greater taper means a single Flare File achieves the canal flare that would otherwise require multiple step back recapitulations, shortening procedure time and reducing the cumulative file count per case. Flare Files are available in two material variants. The stainless steel version is manufactured from Mani's 18-8 hard-fiber stainless steel and offered in both standard ISO sizes (#15 through #60) and intermediate medium sizes (#12, #17, #22, #27, #32, #37). The nickel titanium (NiTi) version undergoes patented Mani thermal processing that delivers shape memory and roughly twice the flexibility of the stainless variant, making it the file of choice for severely curved canals where rigid steel would risk transportation. Both versions use a triangular cross section that provides the flexibility needed to negotiate curves while maintaining cutting efficiency at the 0.05 taper. Clinically, Flare Files serve two functions: producing the final tapered canal shape and acting as a gauge to verify wall taper after canal enlargement. When the Flare File reaches the apex, the canal has automatically achieved the desired tapered geometry, eliminating the over instrumentation risk inherent in extended step back protocols. Each box contains 6 files of a single ISO size, color coded by ISO standard on the silicone handle, with PBT shanks rated for repeated autoclave sterilization.
