Paperboy #9
210 × 275 mm, 200 pages London, UK First published 2021 Biannual Editor/Paperboy: David McKendrick Design & art direction: David McKendrick, Ben McLaughlin & Jack Howden A certified magCulture favourite, this is the ninth issue of David McKendrick’s ‘Good News’ magazine, Paperboy. The theme, ‘Upside Down’, isn’t the only thing turned on its head this edition, which also features a cover star for the first time since its launch in 2021—issues one through seven came wrapped in a monochromatic dust jacket, whilst the latest featured a classic tartan pattern. ‘And what a smasher she is’, David proudly declares in his opening remarks, never mind the fact that she’s a two-toed sloth, and not—as her name, Marilyn—may have you believe, a star of the silver screen. Find out more about this blonde bombshell inside: photographed in her natural habitat (London Zoo) by Jack Davison, and profiled by Alex Bilmes with arguably greater sincerity than is often afforded to her namesake. Elsewhere: a glossy 26-page spread dedicated to designer bum bags—emphasis on the bum—mischievous mutts, yoga poses, touching noses (‘you and your nose are perfect just the way you are’), and ‘a few of Manolo Blahnik’s favourite things’. Plus, as ever, great reading from Liv Siddall, who lists 27 objects that inexplicably turn her on. On the Journal At work with David McKendrick: ‘I don’t want it to sound too basic, but I drew up a wish list of all the great accomplished people I have worked with over the years, and I dreamt a little, and in an old fashioned manner got on the phone, told them about Paperboy, and the idea and begged the question “will you be part of this?” and much to my surprise, everyone seemed up for it.’ read more paperboymagazine.com
