Poetry & Pottery Summer Camp for Teens - AM & PM

June 15th-18th, 9:30-4:30pm, Gr 9-12 Daily Schedule 9:30-12:30 Poetry with Sarah Kobrinsky, former Poet Laureate of Emeryville Get ready to harness the muse and write a lot of poems! In this workshop, we will try various poetic forms, explore different subjects and themes, as well as practice the art of performance. 12:30-1:30 PM Lunch 1:30-4:30 Pottery with Jered Nelson of Jered's Pottery After waxing poetic, we will get our hands in clay. We will practice throwing on the potter's wheel, hand-building, trimming, glazing and more. This is a great opportunity to receive individualized attention from a master potter. One morning we will take a field trip to a local art gallery for ekphrastic writing (writing poems about art). Camp will conclude with a celebratory art reception and poetry reading for friends and family at 5pm on Thursday, June 18th. About the instructors: Sarah Kobrinsky was the 2013-2015 Poet Laureate of Emeryville, CA. She is the author of Nighttime on the Other Side of Everything (New Rivers Press, 2019). She was born in Canada, raised in North Dakota, seasoned in England, and tempered in California. Sarah is also a mother, a folk dancer, and a martial artist. Jered Nelson has been a potter for over 35 years. He has made dinnerware for some of the best restaurants in the world from Japan to Ireland, and across the United States.
