A beautifully proportioned oak finished sideboard, attributed to South African maker Bakker & Steyger, capturing the lighter, Scandinavian influenced direction that shaped much of the country’s finest mid-century furniture. Raised on elegant tapered legs, the piece has a crisp, elevated silhouette, softened by a gently curved lower apron, which elevates its clean profile. The warm oak grain gives the cabinet a natural richness, while the distinctive brass plated drop shaped handles lend a sculptural focal point to the front elevation, balancing simplicity with character. Behind the three lockable cabinet doors, the interior reveals generous storage, including a thoughtfully integrated drop down drinks compartment, ideal as a compact home bar or for entertaining. The fold-down section creates a practical serving surface, while open internal shelving offers space for bottles, glassware, books or everyday storage. Compact in size, yet stands proud and offers much needed storage & versatility. These lighter, contemporary in style yet vintage sideboards don’t come around often. The sideboard presents beautifully, blending practical storage with a distinctly mid century sensibility, equally suited as a statement drinks cabinet, dining room sideboard or media unit. Condition: Fully restored and in very good, overall vintage condition. Minor age-related character may remain, consistent with its vintage origin and adding to its authenticity. The cabinet on the right probably had a small inside shelf, now just open taller storage.
