Matsukita

MATSUKITA Matsukita was first composed in 1892 for the Crown Perfumery Company — the predecessor house that would become Clive Christian — drawn from the impression of a Japanese princess whose presence moved through the Victorian court with a grace that resisted description. Recovered from the archives and reimagined in 2021, it arrives with 252 ingredients and a 25% parfum concentration that leaves almost nothing to approximation. The opening is bright and edged: green bergamot sharpened by pink pepper and a warm curl of nutmeg. The heart is where the character reveals itself — Chinese imperial jasmine threaded through smokey mate tea, dry and deeply atmospheric, with guaiac wood and jasmine sambac pulling the whole accord toward something resinous and low. The base holds for hours: fir balsam, amber, and a whispering musk that keeps shifting on the skin long after the opening has passed. A chypre in the truest sense — structured, layered, and built for the committed wearer.
