Moates Lane 2022 Pinot Noir
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, 88 Points - “It's finely scented on the nose with ripe cherry, dried herb, cured meat and nutmeg aromas, followed by a gentle palate offering bright fruit flavours with polished tannins, finishing elegantly dry and lingering. At its best: now to 2027” COLOUR Bright ruby red of moderate depth and lingering purple highlights on the swirl. NOSE Lifted aromas of cherry and rose petal with hints of violets and warm buttered herb toast. PALATE Clean and full bodied with cherry and raspberry and vanilla roasted nuts smoothly carried across a silky palate of soft grape tannins with subtle toasty oak and a smooth lingering palate. WINEMAKING Fermented in traditional small open top fermenters and hand plunged twice daily for to 10 days using a variety of yeasts. MLF was encouraged on skins and completed in tank prior to 3 months aging in old and new French hogsheads. FOOD PAIRING Roast duck with pot roasted vegetables seasoned with thyme, coq au vin or veal casserole with couscous and roast eggplant. VINTAGE NOTES Cool conditions in early spring led into a warm and dry period for flowering producing a balanced crop load across all varieties. A warm dry summer subsided into a prolonged cool autumn and the subsequent extended 2022 growing season created optimum ripening conditions for full flavour development prior to a slighter later harvest.
