How Do I Acclimate My New Fish to My Pond? To acclimate your new koi to your pond: Float the unopened bag in your pond for 20-30 minutes to equalize the temperature. Open the bag and add a small amount of pond water to the bag. Repeat this process every 10 minutes for about an hour. Gently release the fish into your pond.
