The JEM7-RB was the first JEM7 model — introduced in 1988 with a production run of only two years. A 1988 JEM7-RB is therefore a first-year example of a two-year model - a rare bird indeed! The body is American basswood with the original gloss Root Beer finish in very good condition. The Ibanez Edge double-locking tremolo — the Floyd Rose-licensed unit that Ibanez developed to their own specification and that players consistently praise for its stability and feel — is original, with the original arm. The Top-Lok III locking nut, Gotoh SG38 tuners, and five-way switching are all original and functioning correctly. The monkey grip cutout in the body — one of the JEM's most visually distinctive features — is present and correct. The bridge and neck DiMarzio humbuckers are DP151 PAF Pro units — non-original replacements, disclosed fully. The PAF Pro delivers the open, articulate sound of a PAF with more presence and cut, ensuring no muddiness when played with heavy processing — an ideal blend of snap and chunk, with a midrange spike that DiMarzio describes as like a wah-wah pedal stopped in the middle. The bridge reads 9.23k and the neck reads 8.69k. The middle pickup is the original DiMarzio JEM single-coil at 5.04k — original, intact, and correct. The slender D-shape JEM maple neck at .749" at the first fret and .852" at the twelfth is among the fastest production neck profiles ever made — the dimension that defined the JEM's reputation for effortless playability. 24 jumbo frets (Jim Dunlop 6100), scalloped at the last four frets, 16" radius rosewood fingerboard, 1-11/16" nut. Action set at 2/32" on both strings at the twelfth fret. Ibanez molded hardshell case, strap, and allen wrenches included.
