Encaustic and Silk on Unmounted Canvas 8' x 10' 2026 "Rendered in white with subtle hints of blue, this piece reflects the quiet moment when coastal fog begins to lift and burn away. The Northern California coastline is defined by this shifting atmosphere—especially in summer, when the marine layer rolls in, known locally as “June gloom”“Fogust” or “No Sky July.” Mist drifts over rugged cliffs, sea stacks, and towering redwoods, creating a landscape that feels both dramatic and hushed. There is a kind of veil in that environment—a stillness that can feel contemplative, even slightly eerie. The fog softens everything it touches, muting edges and sound, while sustaining the lush life around it—moss-covered trees and vibrant coastal wildflowers. It is also a fickle landscape, where sunlight and dense mist continually trade places, transforming the same view again and again. This piece captures that in-between moment—the gentle transition as light begins to emerge and the fog slowly releases its hold. Constructed from silk and encaustic, the surface is built in rippling forms that echo both the smaller rhythms of waves and the larger movement of the tide.
