Yellow Boat, Tomonoura Harbour, Japan
This is the third drawing I made in Tomonoura, returning to the harbour again from a slightly different angle. This time it was the yellow boat that caught my attention. Its colour stood out against the softer tones of the water and the buildings beyond, giving me a clear focus for the drawing. I worked into it in the morning light, which felt quieter and more settled. The reflections were softer, and the whole scene had a gentler rhythm to it. As with the others, the drawing is built up through loose, layered marks, allowing the structure to emerge without over-defining it. There’s something about this one that feels particularly resolved — simple, but held together in just the right way.
