Intuitive Mark-Making with Simmin Joy Holland

SATURDAY, JUNE 27, 2:00 - 4:00pm PT This is an in-person workshop at CfM Art Room: 4035 Judah St, San Francisco, next door to our shop! This abstract mark-making and mixed media workshop will explore intuitive ways of making marks to develop freedom and confidence in the process. We will begin with activities designed to explore materials and experiment with various approaches to creating marks. We will then cut & collage the papers we created in warm-up activities, add additional material, and explore meaning through the creation of an abstract piece rooted in your unique sensibility. Open to all levels, activities will include low-pressure drawing & doodling, pattern-making, painting, and collage. MATERIALS NEEDED These are the supplies you'll need to bring for class—feel free to supplement this list with other options you love or have on hand! Drawing materials such as colored pencils, pastels, crayons, &/or markers Matte medium or glue ( gloss medium is fine too) A brush if you are using mat medium Collage papers or found papers - a magazine or old book for collage material Paper for drawing (even computer paper or newsprint is fine) Scissors Watercolor paper (9x12 or larger) Watercolors Scissors Optional: masking tape or blue tape If you'd like to purchase supplies from our shop, you can order online and select in-store pickup, or shop in person before class. Shop hours are 11am-6pm daily; please plan ahead if you're picking up supplies! Instructors will not have access to the shop when we're closed. ABOUT INSTRUCTOR Simmin is a mixed media artist whose current creative practice is based in a life-long exploration of somatic practices, mindfulness/meditation, and self-inquiry. She works with a felt sense - a bodily intuition and curiosity - until an unconscious storytelling is revealed in the material expression. As an OT in mental health and a former yoga teacher, Simmin has 30 years of experience in facilitating individuals and groups to connect to an intuitive place within & express from that place of inner brilliance. THINGS TO KNOW If you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible so we can open up your spot! We are only able to refund if we’re notified at least 48 hours prior to the workshop. Workshop doors open 15 minutes early for all to arrive and get settled. Class will start promptly so everyone has plenty of time to create! For public transit, both the #18 bus and the N-Judah muni lines stop just at the corner of our block. If you're driving, there is 1-hour parking along Judah St., and unmetered street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. We recommend building in extra time to park for evening and weekend classes!
