Thank you! **~ Beautifully executed sampler lending cornflower blue, sage green and soft pink hues under glass showing a contemporary grain painted wooden frame. This piece was worked on linen using cotton thread and was wrought from a stamped kit by “Paragon” back in the 1970’s. Found in Mount Sinai, New York this textile was offered at auction in a lot with three earlier samplers. ”Paragon” made 127 needle stamped kits from 1937 -1982 and are still making kits today. Little is known about Paragon Needlecraft except that it has been in business for 87 years and counting. They sold quilt kits and different kinds of needlecraft projects thru stores such as: J.C. Penny, Sears, Macy’s, etc. along with catalog sales through Lee Wards. The 1970’s was one of the last eras where cross stitch panels were entirely made from linen compared to the 1980’s whereas the new fabric of choice was poly. Apparently, this “sister kit” was presented separately but advertised with a quilt kit, see last image 22. These kits offered ladies a wonderful opportunity to show off their cross stitch sewing skills by following a stamped pattern. The results of their patient work was certainly rewarded upon completion as referenced in this nice example. Birds in flight along with folk art animals and a house claiming center field flanked by weeping willow trees are delightful elements. Happy flowers sprouting from an array of urns further enhances this textiles composition. A floral border of inverted possies shown on the upper and lower borders portray even more stylized detail. Light toning is present but all the stitches seem to be accounted for. No holes or rips to report. Frame was contracted out to a folk artist who did a lovely job using a grain painting technique. Sampler is held under glass and the frame is backed with complementary paper. There is a crease on the paper (left hand side) as shown. Large impressive size allows for this piece to quickly get noticed shown on a wall or can reside leaning up on a dresser. Enjoy! Stands 25” tall, measures 19” across and is ¾” deep.
