How we're doing this - pre-order's NOW OPEN! Misty Creek is a new supplier for CVO and we want to get this right. We're opening pre-orders now to make sure the numbers are accurate for the farm, the logistics run smoothly, and you don't miss out. Pre-orders open 26 May. Our first harvest is 2 June. Your chicken will arrive with your regular CVO box on either 10 or 11 June depending on your delivery day. A couple of things to know: Your chicken will arrive whole, approximately 2kg, frozen and cryovac'd for maximum freshness. If you won't be home to receive your delivery, please leave an esky out with ice bricks so it stays in perfect condition until you get to it. We'll be stocking Misty Creek chickens on an ongoing basis. But starting with a pre-order means we can be intentional about it, for the farm, for us, and for you. Once we've got the rhythm down, ordering will be as simple as adding anything else to your box. For now, get in early, lock one in, and taste for yourself. Most chickens in Australia never see a tree. They live in sheds, or on bare paddocks, and they grow fast because the system is designed for speed, not quality. This is not that chicken. Tom and Nicole of Misty Creek Agroforestry have spent seven years building a 28-acre living food forest in the Northern Rivers of NSW. Their Tree Range chickens are raised within that system, rotated through diverse pasture, food forest and deep mulch, foraging through insects, fallen fruit and perennial grasses the way a chicken is actually designed to eat. Here's what makes it different. The birds aren't just raised near trees. They're an active part of the farming system. Their scratching aerates the soil. Their manure feeds the biology underground. Their foraging keeps the system in balance. In return, the forest provides shelter, diversity of diet and a genuinely enriching environment. The animals and the land are in a real relationship, not a transaction. What does that mean for you in the kitchen? Slow-grown, foraging birds develop real muscle and real fat. The flavour is deeper. The texture has substance. The fat renders beautifully. And because this bird has been supplied cryovac'd, it arrives in perfect condition and holds well in your fridge. Roast it simply with good butter and salt. It does not need much. Then don't throw the carcass away. A bird raised like this makes stock that gels solid in the fridge, rich in collagen and minerals, the kind of thing your grandmother would have made and your body genuinely knows how to use. One bird, roasted well and used nose to tail, will feed a family of four multiple times across the week. We've broken down exactly how to do that further down this page, so nothing goes to waste. We source this chicken because we believe the people growing it are doing something genuinely important, and because we think once you taste it, you'll understand exactly why we were so excited to bring it to you. We're proud to carry it.
