I was hiking up through Tuckerman Ravine in the very last days of June, thinking the ski season must surely be over, but lo and behold, a lone snowboarder was on his way up as well, to get one last run on a brown and white snow patch of no more than a hundred yards. At that point it's not about the ride. It's about being there after summer has officially been declared by the earth's tilt and yet going out for a winter sport anyway.
