Tablas Creek Vineyard Counoise 2023

Robert Haas and the Perrin family — owners of Château de Beaucastel — partnered up in the late '80s to plant Rhône grapes in Paso Robles' Adelaida District. Tablas Creek became the first Regenerative Organic Certified vineyard on the planet. Counoise is one of those quiet Rhône varieties most people haven't heard of; this is their 14th bottling of it.Stainless steel ferment, neutral oak rest — the goal is to let the grape stay bright. First sip is brambly raspberry and rose hips, then it leans into cola and a little cocoa powder. The 2023 was a long, cool growing season, which is why the fruit has this kind of clarity to it.Slight chill, twenty minutes in the fridge before dinner. Pour it with roast chicken, with a tomato pasta, with anything you'd otherwise pull a Pinot Noir for.
