MYRIOPHYLLUM MATOGROSSENSE Myriophyllum Matogrossense is a South American milfoil native to the wetlands, marshes, and slow-moving waters of Brazil. It produces finely divided, feathery leaves along a reddish stem, giving it an elegant, soft-textured appearance that has made it a long-standing favorite background plant in the aquarium hobby. Care tip: Under strong lighting, the uppermost leaves of Myriophyllum Matogrossense can develop attractive reddish to bronze tones — a nice bonus, but not required for the plant to thrive, since it also does well in more moderate light. This plant grows well under medium to high lighting with regular fertilization, and benefits noticeably from CO2 injection, which helps maintain tight internodes and denser, healthier growth. It's genuinely undemanding otherwise and will thrive in a low-tech aquarium, just more slowly. As a background plant, Matogrossense's fine, feathery foliage adds softness and depth behind bolder midground plants, and its potential reddish coloration under strong light provides useful color contrast. Regular trimming keeps growth dense rather than sparse and leggy.
