The steady, measured 6/8 lilt of this strophic tune reflects the lyrical focus of trust in God. Scored for SAB choir with a fourth verse descant, the modal melody, primarily in D Dorian, is beautifully contrasted by a subtle dominant tonicization to A major at the end of each verse. Parts for clarinet in B-flat, cello, and general C or B-flat instruments are also included, allowing for variety of performance options.
