This A&J EKCO High Speed Super Center Drive rotary hand mixer is a circa late 1930s to 1950s manual egg beater with metal gearing, twin whisk blades, and red painted wooden handles. The bright red handles and exposed gear mechanism give this old kitchen tool the unmistakable look of an early to mid century working kitchen. It works well as a display piece with old cookbooks and baking tools, but this example is not only decorative. The crank and beaters spin freely in both directions. Collector's Notes The stamped mechanism identifies this as part of the long era of gear driven hand beaters that worked in American kitchens before electric mixers became standard equipment. The A&J markings and Super Center Drive name give kitchenware collectors specific identifying details rather than leaving this as an anonymous old egg beater. The red wooden handles remain especially noticeable on this example. Their chipped paint plainly shows the years of handling and use. It is the sort of kitchen tool that makes sense beside old cookbooks because you can immediately see how baking was done before plugging something into the wall.
