Peace in the Storm (Print)

Blue arrives in Peace in the Storm the way it arrives in an Icelandic winter — in fragments, through gaps, never as a field. The ground is charcoal and graphite, layered and scraped back, with fine black rulings drawn across it like scaffolding. Then the blue: struck through the dark in patches, bright enough to read as light rather than color. The title is doing real work. This is not a calm painting, but there is something steady holding underneath it. The rawness of Iceland's nature has a considerable influence on my art, and the cold and dark everyday life also evokes a joy of color in my artworks.
