Powell Place

Named for my friend Christy, an avid gardener who grows these extraordinary hollyhocks. I love that something so beautiful came from the hands of someone I love. I photographed them against the darkness, letting the light catch only parts of the petals and leave the rest almost hidden. There is something old-fashioned and romantic about a hollyhock, but here they feel a little moodier and less precious. Powell Place is as much about friendship and the beauty people create around themselves as it is about the flowers.
