Teasel Paperweight
A handmade paperweight with a teasel seed head encapsulated in a resin shell. Preserved perfectly and permanently. Teasels are easily identified with their prickly stem and leaves, and the inflorescence of purple, dark pink or lavender flowers that form a head on the end of the stem. The dried head persists after flowering, with the small seeds maturing in mid autumn. As the name implies, it was traditionally used extensively for the teasing of wool and fabrics and is still used today by luxury Scottish cashmere producers. They act as a natural, gentle brush to create soft wave-like patterns on the surface of cashmere scarves and blankets. Unlike metal alternatives, teasel hooks are gentle. If a teasel meets too much resistance in the fabric, it will break rather than rip the delicate cashmere fibres. The flowers and seedheads within these paperweights are grown naturally on mountains or in carefully tended gardens. Each specimen is hand picked then dried to preserve their natural beauty. They are cast in clear resin and then individually turned and polished. Each paperweight is a unique one off piece, making it the ideal gift or keepsake. Large: 85mm diameter Small: 65mm diameter
