Gems with provenance - and a complete story. These East African Gems have been a passion project for the last couple of years. Sourced through an Australian Gem Dealer who now lives at the foothill of Mount Kilimanjaro and travels directly to the mines - pays them fairly, teaches the women to sort, value and classify gems - all to ensure a thriving ongoing market. Cut in Australia by a family run company, these gems are unheated, untreated and have each been cut to maximise their own beauty. This gorgeous rose cut sapphire traces to a town of 5500 people in Isiolo County Kenya, Garba Tula. This location is one of the places where sapphires grow in multicolour options (forming parti sapphires). This particular sapphire is shallow thanks to its rose cut facets and so it can look icy grey blue in some lights and more vibrant blues at other angles. This stone does have an y-shaped inclusion running through the middle of it and we think it looks like a darker river running through the landscape from a bird’s eye view. Set into a fairly shallow signet face - we were thrilled we had a rose cut of this size to fit - as that flat bottom offers that low profile shape. Ring is chunky with light surface wear. A scuff on the top shoulder - visible in pics.
