Gran Habano Blue in Green

Gran Habano Blue in Green takes its name from the third track on Miles Davis' Kind of Blue — George Rico's favorite record, and the reference point for a Connecticut built to prove that lighter wrappers don't have to mean bland tobacco. The line launched in 2018 and became one of Gran Habano's best-received modern releases. It has received both a 92 & 93 from Charlie Minato of Halfwheel cigars. This specific size 5x36 was a project stemming from PCA 2026. Originally rolled just for George Rico's personal enjoyment, he agreed to share it with us here at Renegade. The wrapper is a golden U.S. Connecticut Shade leaf over a Nicaraguan binder, with long fillers from Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Everything is rolled at G.R. Tabacaleras Unidas in Danlí, Honduras, the factory Guillermo Rico opened in 1998. Each cigar ships inside a cedar sleeve trimmed in gold ribbon under a blue and gold band, and the sleeve is doing real work. It holds the aroma and protects a pale, thin wrapper that shows every handling mark. The smoke is creamy and toasted from the first draw. Cedar, buttery, and citrus come up early, then it settles into oak with a light black pepper on the finish and a natural sweetness underneath.
